Iran movie wins award in Canada

Iranian film ‘Kupal’ has won an award at the 3rd edition of the Canada Independent Film Festival in Montreal.

Directed and written by Kazem Mollaie, the movie won the grand prix for best film at the event.

‘Kupal’ narrates the story of Dr. Ahmad Kupal, a taxidermist hunter who faces a challenge just before the New Year.

“You cannot be alone in the world,” Molaei noted, giving a clue to the philosophical origin of the film, adding that, “The world is a strange place. Here, whoever shoots is the one who gets killed.”

Notable cast members of the film include Levon Haftvan, Nazanin Farahani, Pouria Rahimi-Sam, Hossein Shamsabadi, Vahan Salimzadeh and Mitra Asiaei.

The Canada Independent Film Festival has continued to grow and develop into an important screening opportunity for filmmakers.

The festival screens documentary, feature and short films of every genre.
